summer is here-well the weather doesn't know that-and it is once again time for adventures! it has already been quite an eventful summer but i havent updated this blog in a while so many
The spiral jetty. epic already eh? well add in taking a wrong turn that amounted to 40 extra mile, sketchy dirt roads, a barrage of jack rabbits swarming the road on the way home and you get a proper adventure.
Don't be fooled, the picture with the cave is not aforementioned jetty :) if you look into the background of the photo there is a point of land where the actual destination resides(a good 25 miles of dirt roads to get from point to point). the lesson here being if you are at a fork in the road and Daniel picks one direction you should probably take the other path.
Not to worry though we did finally find the right path and after some nerve racking roads we made it. as you can see in the pictures the spiral jetty is a sight to behold. you don't really feel the magnitude of the task that it was to build it until you walk down and see how big the stones are.
As we were about to leave the sun started to set and some magnificent views were revealed. the picture in the top left is of "oil jetty" about a half mile east of spiral jetty and was taken just before leaving.
On the return journey jack rabbits covered the road and caused much stress. all in all i did run over one. as i was mourning the loss and feeling generally bad i realized that i was just grateful to only hit one. i estimate that there were five or six near misses that i was sure the rabbits were goners.
When i finally arrived home i was exhausted and glad to have a cozy bed to crawl into. yeah sure it was 200 miles of driving to see a dang jetty but hey i would happily have driven double that for the memories made.
